For fans of David Bowie, Brian Eno and Sparks.
After a chance encounter with Tony Visconti in an electronics store (yes, that Tony Visconti who produced David Bowie, T.Rex, and many more), the two swapped numbers, and then the rest was history. “It was immediately evident when we started working together that we shared a greater connection,” says Starr. “As he put it in another interview, ‘it’s cosmic.’ I feel very much the same way. It’s been a great honor. There is no one else on this earth I would rather be working with.”
Starr recently released the record they worked on together entitled A Night To Remember a couple of weeks ago. “We recorded at the Chateau d’Herouville in Vexin, about 45 minutes north of Paris. We lived there for a month, in this outrageous gated castle, nobody could bother us. It was the most pleasurable recording experience in my life thus far.” The record walks a fine line between glam rock and post-punk while somehow still creating a sound that feels genuinely his own.
Brion Starr has shape-shifted and found something new, much like a modern Bowie. “The objective is really to change and explore with every album,” says Starr. “We’ve gone from the early days of being a sort of experimental drone band to a kind of glam-punk thing, an art-rock band, and now exploring a more dance and groove-oriented path. Always incorporating elements from all kinds of music that we love.”
